Tea Books

When you're looking for a gift for someone, the easiest and usually longest-lasting item you can choose is a book. For those special friends who appreciate tea and want to expand their knowledge about the subject, it's a snap to find the appropriate title for each and every person on your list. Be it a special holiday, a birthday, a graduation, a house warming or just a simple "thanks for being a friend," books about tea fit the bill. On this page you can find some of the prettiest and most informative books about tea we've discovered.

The word terroir refers to "the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate" (we had to look it up.) This book uses the word in a wider sense to cover the environs that grow tea -- China, Japan, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam and East Africa. It doing so, the authors provide really nice color photos of each area while discussing varieties, exports, processing, even making, serving and tasting tea. Tea: History, Terroirs, Varieties by Kevin Gascoyne, Francois Marchand and Jasmin Desharnais is almost a complete course in tea.

You might expect a 135-page book to serve up a limited amount of material. That's not true with Tea-Spiration. What makes this book so special is the way it's presented; the author makes you feel as if she's talking to you as a friend who loves tea as much as she does. Tea-Spiration by Lu Ann Pannunzio truly is a book to share with best friends.

We're still working on this book but it sure has raised our interest. After all, it's going to explain how we can grow tea in a garden, on a balcony or even on a window sill!
